RYDD Surveys: Various Preferments

Survey volume RYDD covers various Ecclesiastical Corporations, which were transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners under mid nineteenth century parliamentary legislation.; This volume covers the surveys carried out on behalf of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners by their appointed land agents, Messrs. Clutton and Messrs. Pickering & Smith. The preferments in this volume include the following: Wolverhampton Deanery Estates transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners on 8 May 1846 by Order in Council; Wherwell Prebend Estates transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners by resignation by Deed Poll dated 24 August 1857; Llandaff Treasurership Estates (transfer date unknown); Llandaff Chancellorship Estates (transfer date unknown); and Llandaff Precentorship Estates (transfer date unknown). ; These surveys were essential to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, as it was the most comprehensive way of clearly ascertaining the extent and condition of the preferments that had been transferred. ; As preferments were transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, the various holdings of the estates were either kept or sold; the land agents supplied recommendatory advice on this matter with the survey reports.; The volume also has added annotations often regarding the disposal of property or land since the surveys were originally carried out and therefore incorporate later dates.; The geographical areas covered within the volume includes: the county of Glamorganshire, parishes of Ystradowen, Llandaff and Whitchurch; the county of Monmouth, parishes of Llanthewy Vach and Cwm Carvan, Llangunnock, Llandogo, Penterry, Llangwn and Llanmartin; the county of Yorkshire, parish of Middleham; the county of Yorkshire, parish of Littlebury; the county of Hampshire, parishes of Itchin Abbas, Wherwell, Bullington and Tufton; the county of Staffordshire, parishes of Wolverhampton and Tettenhall; the county of Worcestershire, parishes of Halesowen and Pedmore.
