Originally formed after a series of Special Sub-Committees (see BCC/1/AO/21 minutes for May 1963, minute 25), the Special Development Sub-Committee was appointed to consider questions of unified developments with other contractors (for example British Rail) mainly in shopping, retail and pedestrianisation. During its brief lifespan, the sub-committee examined the shopping developments at Five Ways, Newtown, The Minories and New Street, City Centre. The sub-committee was merged into the Redevelopment and Special Purposes Sub-Committee in July 1966 (see BCC/1/AO/11).
