Immediate source of acquisition

The items in section 1-4, 6, 7, 9, 11-15, 21, 25, 32-34, 37, 39 together with Par/131/30/1 were deposited by the incumbent, March 1970, April 1971 and February and October 1985.

Par/131/30/2 and 31/1 were deposited by Worthing Rural District Council, February 1969.

Par/51/1 together with items in sections 52 and 54 were deposited by the parish council, April 1971 and 1997.

Administrative / biographical background

In its 'One hundred years ago' section of 11 May 1989, the Bognor Regis Observer reported, 'At a meeting of West Sussex County Council, Mr Heasman proposed that in all official documents appertaining to the County Council for West Sussex, the name of the parish of Leominster should be spelt Lyminster, and that as far as the Council had power to direct, the parish should in future be known as Lyminster. Alderman Hargood seconded the motion which was carried.'
