Administrative / biographical background

According to directories the business appears to have commenced on the south side at No. 17 (1861-1864) and then moved to the north side at No. 18 (for which no deeds are present) 1868-1898. Nos. 20 and 22 were acquired in 1896 or later and the business occupied Nos. 18 and 20 in directories of 1902-1929. Subsequently (1930-1944) it was at No. 20 only. No. 16 was acquired in 1904 but never occupied by the business.
