Description (What the record is about)
-
Letter from L.V. Fildes to Mr McLean, Port Sunlight discussing N.K. Smith's Co-Partnership. Mr Fildes refers to Mr Smith's letter dated 30th May 1928 in which Mr Smith makes no mention of the two separate payments of three months' salary in lieu of notice from Planters Foods Ltd and Lever Brothers Ltd. Mr Fildes refers to Mr Smith's understanding that in his interview with Mr Ferguson, at which his employment with Lever Brothers was terminated, no arrangement was made regarding his Co-Partnership Certificates and that is was not suggested that the money paid to him should be considered as compensation for his claim as a Co-Partner. Mr Fildes states that the documentation Mr Smith was asked to sign does not specifically refer to his Co-Partnership. He mentions that the initial confusion stems from Mr Bradshaw and his assumption that Mr Smith had resigned from Planters Foods Ltd and had, therefore, foreited his right to a Preferential Certificate. This was not the case as Mr Smith's employment was terminated through no fault of his own. Mr Fildes believes that if there is any doubt from Mr Ferguson about the arrangements made with Mr Smith regarding his Co-Partnership, then Mr Smith should be allotted a Preferential Certificate. 4 June 1928 [For related correspondence, see catalogue entries GB1752.LBC/136/279, GB1752.LBC/136/281, GB1752.LBC/136/283, GB1752.LBC/136/284, GB1752.LBC/136/285, GB1752.LBC/136/287, GB1752.LBC/136/288, GB1752.LBC/136/289, GB1752.LBC/136/290, GB1752.LBC/136/292, GB1752.LBC/136/293, GB1752.LBC/136/295, GB1752.LBC/136/296, GB1752.LBC/136/297 and GB1752.LBC/136/298]
