Administrative / biographical background

The Lodge of Harmony was named and established in 1799. In 1799 the lodge was held in the Royal Westminster Regiment of Middlesex Militia and met at the Swan Inn, Hastings, Sussex. In 1817 the lodge met at the Crown Inn, All Saints Street, Hastings and it remained there until December 1817 when the lodge united with the Derwent Lodge No. 54 [formally an Antients Lodge], which met at the Cutter Inn [Castle Inn in Warrant], East Parade, Hastings. The united lodge was known as the Derwent Lodge and met at the Anchor Inn, George Street, Hastings. Derwent Lodge No. 40 now meets at the Masonic Hall, East Ascent, St Leonards, Sussex.
