Description

Folios 721-722. Letter from Walter May Barton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union, to the Local Government Board. He encloses for approval the appointment form for Ellen Murray as nurse in the workhouse. The shows Murray now of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union workhouse, late of 13 Canova Street Liverpool had in the past been training as a nurse at Brownlow Hill, Liverpool. The salary to be £30 per annum. The post became vacant following the dismissal by the guardians of the previous officer, Maria Stratton, for misconduct. The guardians then employed Miss Maria Betts, East Dereham as a temporary nurse. Murray has a certificate from the training school for nurses at Brownlow Hill, Liverpool.

Annotated: 'Mr Boyle. 1. Inquire grounds for increase of salary. 2. Request to be informed of the nature of the misconduct for which Maria Stratton was dismissed. Write to Liverpool for character', 17 December 1880.
