INTRODUCTION

This, the fifteenth volume of Additional Manuscripts (Add Mss), has, in general, been compiled along the lines indicated in the introduction to the first volume

Apart from deeds of title which form the major part of this volume, there will also be found records of the 'Wren House Players', (Add Mss 11,627 - 11,629); letters and papers relating to the work of Eric Gill, (Add Mss 11,634 - 11,637), Minute Book of the Trustees of the Horsham, Steyning and Beeding Turnpike, (Add Mss 11,692); and records of Lady Gifford's Harriers Point-to-Point Steeplechases, (Add Mss 11,846 - 11,899). The documents range in date from a grant of demesne land in Wiston, 1302, (Add Mss 11,690); to a certificate, with order, badge and miniatures, of the Great Service Cross, awarded to Dr. George Kennedy Allen Ball, by the German Republic, 1958, (Add Mss 11,694)

No index has been provided for this volume, as all the relevant details of this, and all previous volumes, have been included in the card indexes of persons, places, subjects and manors which are to be found in the Search Room of the County Record Office

Students are again asked to exercise care in quoting references, and to use the form indicated in the introduction to the first volume
