Parliamentary Committee files

These files consist of several series: firstly the 'G' files (dating from the first half of the 20th century), then the 'P' files which superseded them in the 1950s and lasted until the 1970s, then a few 'Z' files from the 1950s, and finally some items with no original numbers at all (CC/NV 228 onwards). Only a small proportion of the available files has been selected for preservation. They comprise accessions 7226 and 8071.

The files cover a large range of subjects. Most relate to boundary changes, borough extensions, local government reform, Parliamentary Bills in which the county had an interest, and general County Council administration. However, some special issues are also covered, eg riots, regional planning, unemployment, race relations, railway closures, common land and the proposed Morecambe Bay Barrage.
