Custodial history

This volume was found in 1950 in a garden shed in Station Road, Churchdown, following the death of the house owner, Miss Pumfrey, then in her 80's (ex. inf. Mr. H. D. Howe who purchased the house in 1950)

Administrative / biographical background

The Pumfrey family had farmed at Parton in Churchdown since at least the mid-19th century. William Pumfrey is recorded in the 1851 census, aged 50, farming 79 acres and employing 4 labourers. His will was proved at Gloucester in 1870, and the farming business was carried on by various members of the family (see Kelly's trade directories)
