Material comprises small index cards on which Simpson recorded his research on collections, collectors, and places, as well as information relating to the analysis of sales of works of art from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Most of the information relates to the United Kingdom, although there is a small amount which relates to foreign collections.
The index cards are arranged alphabetically by name of collector/collection, and by artist name.
