The Jesuit Fund for Social Justice (JFSJ) was established in 1992 by the then Provincial, Fr Michael Campbell-Johnston SJ. He intended the Fund to be at the disposal of Jesuits working in Britain in social justice ministry, and to enable other Jesuits to become involved in new social justice works. JFSJ has supported Jesuits in many varied projects such as refugee work, homelessness, and reconciliation. Today the social justice work of the Jesuits in Britain involves lay people as well as Jesuits, employed and volunteers, based in social projects, schools, parishes, and volunteering schemes, playing a full part in the social justice work of the British Province. The Fund is administered by a committee of Jesuits and co-workers, all of whom share a passion for social justice in the Church, which meets three times each year to review applications and make small grant awards. The Fund is available to anyone who is connected with the Society of Jesus in Britain, either Jesuits themselves or those who work with the Society through schools, parishes, retreat centres, or volunteering, and for projects that seek to live out a faith that does justice in Britain.
