Mr. William Owen (father) worked at Crossley Bros. Pottery Lane, Openshaw, as a brass moulder and became foreman in the brass foundry. He married Winifred, daughter of John William Penney who kept a shop in Railway St., Gorton. They had three children, Ida, Winnie and Wilfred Owen, who went to Aspinal School. Mr. Wilfred Owen worked in Manchester (and later Salford) parks department before going into Manchester Housing Department.
