This collection relates to six different groups of property in Foregate Street, Frodsham Street and Queen Street, Chester. The first group of property comprises 67 and 69 Foregate Street and 1, 3, 5 and 7 Queen Street which were owned between 1785 and 1858 by the Seller family of Chester, brewers, and which by 1890 had been acquired by Thomas Norbury of Upper Northgate Street, provision dealer. The second group comprises a house and land called 'Rose's Garden' on the north of Foregate Street, which was owned by the Darlington family between 1787 and 1803. In 1818, it was bought by James Bramwell of Chester, corkcutter. The third group of property comprises 55 Foregate Street and three houses on the east of Frodsham Street which were owned by the Jones family of Chester, bakers, between 1828 and 1882, when the property was acquired by Thomas Norbury of Upper Northgate Street, provision dealer (see also C3451 for title deeds to 55 and 57 Foregate Street, 1897-1979). The fourth group of property comprises 59 and 61, Foregate Street, the latter being the 'Brewers Arms' or 'Trow Tavern' which was replaced by the 'Mitre Hotel' or 'Green Dragon' in 1898. Between 1881 and 1893 these properties were owned by the family of John Sturt, licensed victualler, and they were bought by Thomas Montgomery, brewer, in 1897. The fifth property, 9 Queen Street, was bought by George Parsonage in 1896. The sixth group of property comprises 13, 15, 17 and 19 Queen Street which were purchased by Thomas Montgomery, brewer, from Gilbert Parry on 1897 (see also C3446 for title deeds to 13, 15 and 17 Queen Street, 1902-78).
