The following records were deposited in the Archives Department on permanent loan in December 1977 by Mr. Taylor, Secretary of the Lancashire and Cheshire Band of Hope and Temperance Union, 207 Deansgate.

Administrative / biographical background

The Lancashire and Cheshire Band of Hope Union was formed in 1863, the first of the county unions and very influential particularly through its periodical publication 'Onward', which was first published in 1865. The Union was incorporated in 1902, the Publications Department becoming a separate entity at the same time.
