Administrative / biographical background

The firm was started in Birch Street, Nayland in 1899 by Walter Webb, and moved to High Street in 1903. Branches were later opened in Boxford and Stoke-by-Nayland. After Walter Webb's death in 1930 the three shops were run by his sons Cyril and Frank. The Boxford and Stoke shops were closed after the death of Cyril Webb in 1966 and the Nayland shop closed in 1974 on Frank Webb's retirement.
