Description (What the record is about)
-
Richd. How II (Aspley) to Sarah How, his sister-in-law. An exceedingly long letter, listing her faults. her extravagance in dress & journeys to London & her schemings to obtain a settlement of her husband's property that would provide a bait for a 2nd husband if she should survive Briggins, her lst husband; how she was raised from a servile position, provided with a good, genteel education by Richd. How I in preparation for the marriage to his son & provided with a £60 annuity. Rd. How II thinks that Briggins' will should be made to put the disposal of the estate in the hands of guardians & to settle everything on the children - Mentions that Briggins mill has been put in good repair - Compares her settlement with his own wife's [Silena) position: Silena did not want a settlement made for herself, but handed over everything to Richd. How II, including a large sum of money (she had had £1000 at her lst marriage to Robt. Ramsay.)
