Description

The holy regeneration or revival of ye Protestant Church amongst the Grisons or an account of their Reformation and improvement of ye state of religion'. An English translation of a history of the evangelical church in the Grisons, 'Heilige Widergeburt der evangelischen Kirche in den gemeinen dreyen Pundten der freyen hohen Rhaetiae: oder Beschreibung derselbigen Reformation und Religions-Verbesserung ...' (Brugg, 1680), by Batholomaeus Anhorn (1616-1700), also known as Bartholomaeus Anhorn von Hartwiss. f. i, iii-iv. Title page: 'The history of Reformation in the churches of the Grisons and the county of Valteline, together with an account of the severe persecutions raised against them and of several bloody massacres committed against em, published by Bartholomy Anhorn'. Followed by a summary of the contents of the work. In a second hand, not that of the text. f. ii. A title page for another work (not present here): 'The Protestant church of Teffereckerthal which has been concealed from their enemies above an hundred years but now discovered in the Arch-bishoprick of Saltzburg ... by Godfrey Love-Truth'. This is 'Die über Hundert Jahr Ihren Widersachern unsichtbar gewesene nunmehro aber nach deren Entdeckung zerstreuete Evangelische Teffereckerthal-Kirche in des Ertz-Stiffts Saltzburg' (Gotha, 1688), by Gottfried Wahrlieb, pseud. ie. Johann Christoph Franck. Written in the same hand as the main text. ff. 1-193. 'The holy regeneration or revival of ye Protestant Church amongst the Grisons or an account of their Reformation and improvement of ye state of religion'.

Immediate source of acquisition
Amongst books and manuscripts received by Sion College as a bequest from Thomas Bray (1656-1730) on 20 Feb. 1729/30 (See Sion L40.2/E96, f. 210r). A list of the manuscripts and printed books bequeathed to Sion College by Bray is also included in [Samuel Smith], 'Publick spirit illustrated in the life and designs of the Reverend Thomas Bray', 2nd edition (London, 1808), pp. 100-120. Transferred from Sion College to Lambeth Palace Library in 1996.
