Administrative / biographical background

The unnamed lodge was established in 1764 and met at the Red Lion, Eyes [now Sunderland Street], Macclesfield, Cheshire. In 1790 the lodge took a Modern Warrant and was known as the Beneficent Lodge No. 545. However No. 47 did continue to work as an Antient Lodge and in 1793 the lodge moved to the New Angel, Market Place, Macclesfield. The lodge made their last payments in 1794 and in 1800 the warrant was returned, as the lodge decided to only work under the Modern Constitution. The Modern lodge worked until 1827 when the lodge was erased.
