Gilbert de Segrave (d. 1254) married Amabel, daughter and coheir of Robert de Chaucombe, probably in 1231 when a settlement was made of the Chaucombe lands between the Segraves and Amabel's sister Milicent, who was married to Ralph Basset. Under the terms of the settlement the Segraves were to have the manor of Great Dalby (Leics.) for the rest of Robert de Chaucombe's life, and after his death they were to have the manor of Chacombe (Northants.) and half of the manor of Aspley, in Ullenhall (Warws.), while the Bassets were to have Great Dalby, the holding in Strubby (Lincs.) and half of Aspley: below, BCM/D/6/1/3 [SC 223]. Milicent, however, died without issue in 1246, so the whole inheritance went to the Segraves. Strubby was alienated, and only the principal manors of Chacombe, Aspley and Great Dalby remained. The Chaucombes had also held lands in Stathern (Leics.), Little Bourton and Pyrton (Oxon.), Cubbington (Warws.) and Beoley (Worcs.).
