Description

Annual returns giving names, professions and residence of members of the Lodge of Antiquity [Antients] and general correspondence relating to the running of the lodge. Includes correspondence concerning a petition made by some members of the lodge for a new warrant. Years 1801, 1804 and 1812 are not extant.

Administrative / biographical background

The lodge of Antiquity No. 178 was established in 1786 and met at the Queen's Head, Market Place, Wigan, Lancashire. In 1786 the lodge was named the Antient Royal Arch Lodge and in 1841 it was renamed the Lodge of Antiquity. The lodge now meets at Tower Buildings, Wallgate, Wigan, Lancashire.
