Gaz. 2Lt R Scots 23/10/14 and trained in 14 Bn at Weymouth. Prom Lt 6/7/16. Served BEF F&F from 6/10/15 att to 11 Bn. Transf MGC 23/12/15. Battle of the Somme with 9 Scottish Div. Severely wounded at longueval 14/7/16 and invalided home. On recovery to MGC HQ Grantham. Ret France 1/4/18 and att 21 Bn, being present at withdrawal of the British Line east of Ypres that month. Went with Div to Rheims taking part in the severe fighting there 27-29 May. To MGC HQ Camiers for special course of instruction. Rejoined Bn August 1918 and died at No 3 Gen Hosp le Treport 5/10/18 following gas-shell wounds received in action at Chapel's Hill, Hendicourt on 29/9/18. Buried Mont Huon Cem. Wounded at Chapel Hill near Heudicourt, and died at Le Treport on 29th September 1918.;Other Notes: SCOTLAND, Captain, DAVID LOTHIAN, "A" Coy. 21st Bn. Machine Gun Corps. Died of wounds (gas), received at "Chapel Hill," near Heudicourt, 5th October 1918. Age 23. Son of Lt. Col. D. W. Scotland, I.M.S. (retd.) and of Grace Rowan Wingate, his wife, of "Landour," Colinton, Midlothian. Born at Orai, United Provinces, India. Severely wounded in the Battle of the Somme, 14th July, 1916.
