Immediate source of acquisition (When and where the record was acquired from)
- This typed copy (one of two in existence) of H.S.V. Shapley's register of British organs was first assembled during the inter-war years and was revised several times until the 1960s. The directory was donated to the Horniman Museum sometime between 1975 and 1979 by E.A.K. Ripley. In two letters to David Allen (Horniman Museum Librarian) Ripley explains how he came to own the directory after it was sold to him by Shapley shortly before the latter's death.
