John Delgarno's relationship with the Holmes and Worsley-Holmes families remains somewhat enigmatic. He was a property owner in his own right and this property included shares in the Limerick estate acquired partly by inheritance from his friend, Elizabeth Roberts, JER/HBY/110/2, and partly by purchase. Though a trustee under the settlement of 1808/9, JER/HBY/119/1, he remained unconnected with the family until the marriage of his daughter Anne with Leonard Thomas Worsley Holmes in 1813. On his own death in 1818 his unsettled property, that is to say everything except his shares in the Limerick estate which was settled jointly on his two daughters, was devised to trustees to be sold.
