Description (What the record is about)
-
The petition of the Alderman Stewards and Society of Carpenters Sawyers and Slaters was further respited till the next Assembly.
It was ordered that the wall lately built by Mr. Edward Wrench by encroachment on the City's land be pulled down under the inspection of Aldermen Duke and Cotgreave and Mr. John Johnson and that the persons pulling it down be indemnified by the Corporation.
The petition of Henry Bushell, wetglover, and Randle Sorton, wetglover, on behalf of themselves and Jonah Child the younger of Bewdley, co. Worcester, hop merchant, was read stating that by order of Assembly on 22nd September, 1743, on the petition of John Egerton of Chester, brewer, stating that he was seized of several midding places under the City walls near the Newgate by a grant from the City at annual rent of twelve pence and desiring to have a building lately erected by him on part of the same at additional rent, a view and report was to be made. By order of Assembly on 12th October 1743 he was granted the same at the additional rent of two shillings. John Egerton afterwards died leaving the premises to his son John Egerton. By a Lease and Release of 7th and 8th June, 1758 John Egerton and Anne his wife granted the same to the present petitioners and Jonah Child, upon trust for the purposes mentioned (ZA/B/4/182). They had lately contracted for sale of the building and the midding places pursuant to the deed of Trust but the title deeds were lost or mislaid. John Egerton and the persons claiming under him had paid rent of one shilling for the midding places and an additional two shillings for the building since the order of 12th October 1743. They therefore pray a new grant of the premises, a stable and warehouses over the same, and six midding places all adjoining the City Walls on the east side of a street leading out of Pepper Street towards Clayton Lane upon the Trusts mentioned in the Indenture of Release. A grant was ordered to be made at the same rents.
Upon reading the petition of William Dicas, perukemaker, praying a grant to him and his heirs of a way or passage in the Row between his house and shop in Bridge Street, 17 feet long by 5 feet 9 inches, in order to enlarge his shop, it was ordered that it be granted on fine of five shillings.
