Mrs. Hirst's mother, Kitty Bertha Dennick, was daughter of George Dennick, early Music Hall performer, and she went on stage in her teens in a "cakewalk" double act. Later she went solo and specialised in male impersonation. She married twice and had three children, including Mrs. Hirst. They mainly lived in the Midlands.
