Immediate source of acquisition

The records were deposited the parish in two accessions: accession numbers 2517 (deposited in 1976) and 2595 (1977). Both accessions were formerly catalogued using "2517" as the fonds level reference code.

Administrative / biographical background

Abbotsley is an ancient parish in the Archdeaconry of Huntingdon. Until 1837 it was in the Diocese of Lincoln; since 1837 it been in the Diocese of Ely.

The parish was within St Neots Poor Law Union 1836-1930, St Neots Rural Sanitary District 1872-1896, and St Neots Rural District 1896-1974. Since 1974 the parish has been within Huntingdonshire District.
