A body of commissioners was established under the Act for Paving, Cleansing, Watching, Watering and Improving the Town and Borough of Sudbury in the County of Suffolk, 1825 [copy at HD 717/1364/2]. The Commissioners' powers were extended by a further act in 1842 [EE 501/11/248], but were taken over in 1874 by the Urban Sanitary Authority.
