Sam Lightowler married Annie Jane Sharp at Highfield Church, Huddersfield. They had 12 children including Alice, donor's mother. Most of the sons followed their father in becoming sculptors or masons and the daughters ran wool or knitting shops in Hulme. Most of them were born in Council Street, Hulme and then later moved to Heywood Street near Alexandra Park.
