Administrative / biographical background

Kanta Walker carried out the research in Manchester, covering areas: Cheetham Hill, Burnage, Levenshulme and the Longsite areas of the city.

The research was collated towards a book carried out by the Late Prof. Tom Kitwood at the Humanistic Studies Department attached to Bradford University.

The Asian Youth Counselling & Advisory Service was formed when a group of self-help workers from the Asian Youth and Community Workers' Association came together for mutual help and support. They became increasingly involved with the difficulties which some Asian youth face in their formative years, and wanted to address the gaps in provisions and resources geared towards the specific cultural, ethnic and social needs of young people.
