Administrative / biographical background

This family descends from Thomas Pedder a 17th-century Preston merchant. His grandson acquired the advowson of Garstang, a living which was held by many members of the family. By his second marriage the Rev. John Pedder obtained the Taylor estate of Finsthwaite in 1801
