Many of the items in this collection refer to work done on properties within 'Merchants' Close', i.e. behind Fossgate and beside the Hall. There are also many tax receipts (income tax, house duty, land tax) for these properties, and also for the land at Havergarth, outside Walmgate Bar. They give information on the tenants of these properties and the nature of the property (e.g.shop, warehouse etc), as well as incidents such as fires." -
