Description (What the record is about)
-
These are a record of the Archidiaconal Court and record the names of churchwardens (or chapelwardens or sidesmen) and clergy of every parish church and chapel in the deaneries of the Archdeaconry of Richmond at the time of the Bishop's Visitations. They may also include at the back of each book the oath to be administered to the new churchwardens, and lists of those parishes where there are no presentments because there are no churchwardens. Numbers 1-32 are in Latin but from number 33 the books are in English. Numbers 1-24 cover the deaneries of Copeland, Furness, Kendal and Lonsdale with the exception of number 16 which also includes Amounderness. Amounderness is included in all the books from 1724. For the period 1708-1721, Amounderness appears in the Eastern Deanery Call Books which are held at Leeds.
