Collection of 190 loose prints relating to the Addis and Ellis families, some extracted the albums in Photo 1360/1-7. The material has broken down as follows:. 1. 44 prints, originally loose in Photo 1360/1. Subjects include: Annie Ellis with grandson Irlam and Ellis Addis, Himalayan scenes, railway subjects, including Teesta Valley project, views in Sikkim. (Original envelopes 1 and 2). 2. 8 prints, originally loose in Photo 1360/2, 3and 7. Subjects include: cabinet portrait of an unidentified man, by Bourne and Shepherd, 1870s; James and Kate Atkinson on porch of Tarbitvill House, near Cupar, August 1908; views of the Teesta River (one by J. Burlington Smith Studio); family groups. (Original envelope 3). 3. 9 prints, portrait groups of Annie Ellis and family in India, with identifying captions on reverse. One is a cabinet portrait by G. W. Lawrie and Co. (Original envelope 4). 4. 11 prints, miscellaneous groups and portraits, including one landscape (beach scene), an unidentified house, the grave of Brind Ellis, son of John and Annie Ellis and the Ellis family in a motor car. (Original envelope 5). 5. 10 prints, portraits by various photographers of Rev Ellis Avenel Addis (1905-1978), from childhood to adulthood. (Original envelope 6). 6. 17 prints, miscellaneous portraits and houses. Some work by professional photographers, including Bourne and Shepherd, Herzog and Higgins (Mhow), Walter Davey (Harrogate). (Original envelope 7). 7. 10 prints, portraits of Irlam Bawn Addis (1904-1977), son of Robert Bawn Addis. Photographers include S. H. Dagg (Mussoories and Allahabad), Thomas A. Rust (Darjeeling), Henry Potts (Hove). (Original envelope 8). 8. 21 prints, miscellaneous snapshots of Burma, portraits of Mary Addis, née Ellis (d. 1919), first wife of Robert Addis, views of houses, view looking towards the Himalayas from Darjeeling. (Original envelope 9). 9. 18 prints, railway scenes in Burma, relating to the work of Robert Bawn Ellis. See next item. (Original envelope 10). 10. 12 prints, principally portraits and groups of Robert Bawn Addis (1874-1947), railway engineer in Burma and India, from childhood to adulthood. Includes a group of the marriage of his son Ellis Avenel Addis in New Zealand, 1929. (Original envelope 11). 11. 14 prints, misecellaneous photographs relating to the Addis family in India and England, including an 1860s carte de visite portrait of William Bawn Addis (1800-1871). Original envelope 12). 12. 12 prints, portraits of the Addis family, including Frederic Henry Addis, Henry Bawn Addis and Robert Bawn Addis. (Original envelope 13). 13. 4 prints, with outline family tree. Portrait groups: Mary Addis and her sister (S. H. Dagg studio, Mussoorie); Mary Addis and her sister in Japanese costume; large group portrait at an unidentified occasion, including Robert Addis; unidentified wedding group, with Irlam Addis as pageboy.
