Bargain and Sale for £1980: Benjamin Wilcocks of Milnethorpe, par. Cuckney, woodward to Margaret, Duchess of Portland (on behalf of the Duchess) to Alexander Barker of Edensor and John and Jonathan Bromehead both of Eckington, gents.:-- Present growth of springwood in Cobner Wood and Copy Wood (in all 124 ac. 2r.) except 498 blackbarks and 6220 wavers --: Wood to be cut and carried away within 3 years 8 months after 1 March 1762. Woods to be felled in the same order as had been previously followed. No other timber of the Duchess in co. Derby to be felled (except for repairs to her property) before 31st October 1764. Duchess to provide stone for repairing the wall belonging to the premises and to pay half the expense of such repairs. Ditch to be maintained by the Duchess; hedges, gates and stiles by the lessees. Covenants to observe customary methods of forestry and to compensate Duchess for damage.

Lessees to sell to Mr. John Peel of Atterclife, co. York and Co., forge-masters before 1st May each year not more than 600 cords of cordwood at 9s. a cord. Lessees to have right to make saw pits, charcoal pits and kilns for making charcoal and drying white coal on parts of the premises hitherto used for those purposes; to take clods and earth for coaling either from the premises or any waste land of the Duchess in the Manor of Barlowe; and to use any accustomed ways for conveying timber and charcoal.
