On 18 June 1947 53 documents were received from Hackney Borough Library via the British Records Association (BRA 984). No provenance was indicated, but it is clear from comparison with other groups, particularly SAS/PN and AMS6270, that many of them related to properties formerly owned by the Buxted Park Estate.
There is no indication of the means by which these documents came to be in Hackney Library
-
Custodial history (Describes where and how the record has been held from creation to transfer to The National Archives)
-
Evidence for at least two separate systems of arrangement appear on the documents originating from Buxted. The earlier consists of a simple number, written in ink, at the top-left-hand corner of the document, with occasional references to boxes identified by letter. The second system consists of a letter followed by a number in brackets, all written in violet ink
The antiquary William Burrell visited Buxted Place in the course of his studies (see SAS/ME 22, Burrell to Charles Gilbert, 27 June 1794), and some of the documents are endorsed with his initials
