Views of Simla by Capt George Powell Thomas, of the 64th Regt., Bengal Infantry (Dickinson & Co., London: 1846).
Library plate (verso front cover): "J Wm Douglas". The volume is dedicated to: "The Court of Directors of the Honourable East India Company".
A large-format volume comprising an introduction ("A Brief Alphabetical Account of the Inhabitants, Customs, and Productions of the Himalayas"), a discursive "Description of the Plates", and most of the twenty-four two-tone illustrative Plates that are listed. Three Plates are wanting, as indicated below. Furthermore, there is an additional Plate not listed ("Ford on the Road to the Chor" - ?Plate 16 by another name) which has been placed at the back of the volume.
The Plates are: (1) Waterfall below Simla; (2) Suspension Bridge at Hurreepoor; (3) Simla from Rock Cottage; (4) Combermere Bridge, Abbeville, and Barrett's Boarding House; (5) Simla from the back of Jacko [Plate wanting]; (6) View from Colonel Chadwick's House; (7) The View from the Mount; (8) Colonel Rich's House; (9) View from the House Called the "Eagle's Nest"; (10) Lord Auckland's House, and Stirling Castle [Plate wanting]; (11) View of Captain The Hon. H B Dalzell's House; (12) Fancy Fair at Annadale; (13) Race Course at Annadale; (14) Kilmanock, or Kilmanack; (15) The Waterfall on the Road to the Chor; (16) View from the Chor [Plate wanting]; (17) View of the Village beside the Stream on the Road to ther Chor; (18) Pútternala ("So pronounced by Europeans; though it is written thus by the natives, Put-Hurnala") - however, the orthography in the caption at the foot of the illustration itself is "Pathurnullah"; (19) The Chor below Surrah; (20) View from the top of Huttoo; (21) The Snowy Range from a Height of 10,000 feet; (22) Temple and Pine Forest at Deotee; (23) The View of the Boorinduh Pass (spelt "Borinda" in the caption at the foot of the illustration itself); (24) Jumnootree.
The final page of the volume is a map of "Simla and the Hills as far as Koonawur".
