St Oswald's Church in Coventry Road began as a temporary iron church, licensed from 1882 as a mission of St Andrew's, Bordesley. A permanent building, designed by W H Bidlake, was consecrated in 1893 and enlarged 1899-1900. A parish was assigned in 1889 out of St Andrew's. Parts of the parish were subsequently taken to form the parishes of St Benedict, Bordesley (1910) and St Gregory, Small Heath (1924). In 1992, the benefice and parish were united with those of St Aidan, Small Heath
The living was described as donative in 1889 and as a vicarage from 1893 in the gift of the bishop and public trustees alternately. Two mission churches in the parish were licensed for public worship: St Benedict's mission church, 1898-1910 (when it was consecrated) and a mission church in Whitehall Road (1889-1926)
