Friends of the Horniman

The archives of the Friends of the Horniman, which was an independent charity founded in 1988 to build awareness of the Horniman Museum and support its work through volunteering, fundraising and delivering events to engage audiences. The collection contains records covering the governance of the charity including minutes and other meeting papers of its committee, steer groups, and its annual general meetings and trustees meetings; financial records detailing membership subscriptions and funds raised; photographs of members of the Friends at various events; publicity material for Friends events held at the Horniman Museum and Gardens, records of away days, trips and events for Friends held outside the Museum; memorials and obituaries for deceased members; copies of the Friends of the Horniman Newsletter and related publications; and information assembled by members on the history of the charity. The Friends were integrated into the Horniman Museum and Gardens membership scheme in 2017.
