Records of the Bonham Carter family of Adhurst St. Mary. Adhurst St. Mary, in the parish of Sheet near Petersfield, was built by John Bonham Carter (1817-84), MP for Winchester 1847-74. The architect was PC Hardwick, who designed the great hall at Euston Station. The house passed to the eldest son, another John (1852-1905), who unsuccessfully contested the parliamentary seat at Petersfield in 1892 and 1897; and on his death to his daughter Helen, who married Sir Alan Lubbock.
