Roll of Honour(de Ruvigny) Vol II, Sect 3, p146: eldest son of Hugh Laughland Roxburgh of Cresalta,Reservoir Rd, Prenton, Cheshire, Cotton Broker, by his wife Ethel, d. of George H Hewitt JP;born Liverpool 28/6/1895; educ Greenbanks Sch and Clifton College (Scholar). OTC member and Head of School House Corps. Was about to gfo to Corpus Christi, Cambridge, but vol for active service andgazetted 2Lt 17 Liverpools 1/9/14.Went France with 89 Bde as MG officer in 1915. Gazetted Capt MGC 14/1/16 and Major 12/9/18 having been app Bde MG Officer early in 1915. In battles of Somme, Montauban, Trones Wood & Guillemont July-Aug 1916 and at Ypres 31/7/17 - 3/8/17. Subs at Cambrai April 1918. Commandant of MG Sch Camiers, training US troops, May-Sept 1918 and att 63 Naval Div in Sept and was KIA at Cambrai 2/10/18. Buried at Graincourt Cem. His death was unfortunate and tragic, he had only returned to billets, from the burial of a brother officer when our area was shelled with the result that he was killed instantly. He was MID (LG 9/4/17) by FM Sir D Haig and awarded MC(LG 3/8/17) . Unmarried.
