Description

The 1851 Bath Act gave the Council a number of responsibilities relating to public health, and empowered it to appoint a Medical Officer of Health. Not all the powers were acted on immediately, and the first Medical Officer of Health was not appointed until 1866.

The records in this sub-fonds comprise records created by the Medical Officer of Health, the Public Analyst, and the Sanitary Inspector.. They have been gathered together here for convenience of users. They include:

- Reports of the Medical Officer of Health (various series)
- Public Analyst - register of samples received
- Notices issued [to individuals] under Public Health Acts
- Reports on house inspections, mid C20
-Papers relating to the creation of the statutory hospital, Claverton Down
-Printed guide to the Public Health services of Bath City 1939
