Hoddesdon Urban District was coterminous with the Urban Parish created under the Local Government Act, 1894. It combined that part of the ecclesiastical parish of Hoddesdon which was within a Special Drainage District with 65 acres in the south of Great Amwell Parish. In 1935 the District and Parish were enlarged by the addition of most of Broxbourne, Wormley and Hoddesdon Rural Parishes. Under the Local Government Act, 1972, Hoddesdon became part of the Borough of Broxbourne.
