Immediate source of acquisition

The St Quintin of Harpham collection was given to the Yas in 1944 by Col. E S L'Estrange Malone of Scampston.

Administrative / biographical background

The St Quintin family was related by marriage to the Lacy family of Folkton and to the Chitty family.

<span class="wrapper"><p>The collection includes a large number of medieval deeds and other material, abstracts of which were published in Transactions of the East Riding Antiquarian Society Vol 21 (1914) pp 25 - 69, and early wills, transcribed in full in the same volume pp 70 - 79.</p> <p>There is an account of the St Quintin family and references to further sources of information in the Victoria County History: Yorkshire, East Riding Vol. 2 (1974) pp 223 - 228</p></span>
