In 1571, Elizabeth I granted the residue of Stafford College's property (consisting of lands and tithes in Stafford, Coton, Marston, Salt and Rugeley) to the burgesses of Stafford so as to provide stipends for the rector, assistant curate, schoolmaster of Stafford, and curate of Marston; the remainder going towards the repair of Stafford St. Mary's and charitable works in the town.
