The depositor's father-in-law, Hyman Weinberg, was the owner of a well-known water proof garment making factory in Manchester. The factory was founded by his father, Jacob Weinberg, who came from the Baltic; he was born in 1853, naturalised in 1886 and died in 1925. The factory was located in North Street, Cheetham, and employed some 400 workers. Hyman Weinberg married Gertrude Levi, the daughter of moneylender John Levi, in 1910.
