Description (What the record is about)
-
By the terms of Archbishop Thoresby's licence of 1373, the advowson or patronage of the newly-established hospital was vested in John Roucliffe and his heirs. The sixteen documents in this file date from 1396 to 1471 and trace the descent of the advowson from Roucliffe's daughter, Agnes, the wife of William Waselyn. In 1435/6 following the incorporation of the 'community of the merchants of York' by charter of King Henry VI, the advowson was vested in members nominated by the community.
