Folios 290-291. Draft letter from the Local Government Board to Walter May Barton, Clerk to the Guardians of the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union, acknowledging receipt of his letter of 9 December 1879. It appears to them that the salary of £120 per annum, which the guardians propose to assign to him as clerk, includes an allowance of £10 per annum for the purpose of providing him with a suitable office as Superintendent registrar. They state that his clerk's salary must not be inclusive of the amount to be paid as rent to the office to be occupied by him as superintendent registrar. They have no objection to his appointment as clerk and give approval to the payment of a salary of £110 per annum for his services. They do not give their sanction to the additional £10 and call his attention to the statute of 6 & 7 Will IV c 86 s 9, which is quoted in verbatim.
Paper Number: 91764/B/1879.
