Description

Dock and Harbour Engines (17 items).

Two 20 horse power side lever boat engines for land, with 26¾ inch cylinders, 2½ foot strokes.

Reverse side view of the engine, longitudinal section of the boiler, plan of the engine and boiler with pump work pencilled in, cross-section of the engine house, cross-section of the boiler house and boiler; rough sketch of crank pin and fly shaft, with note from William Creighton to Abraham Storey attached; sketches of the pumps, pump shaft, pump rod straps - 4 small rough sketches; bell crank and apparatus for varying the length of the stroke - coloured original and coloured reverse drawings marked "Schemed Dec. 1826, this drawing made Jun. 1828"; rough sketch of blocks, plates etc. for the bell cranks, rough pencil sketch of bell crank; plans and sections of the pumps and gearing - reverse drawing; printed "Plan of the Proposed Alterations and Additions to the Docks and Basins in the Port and Town of Liverpool 1825" by Jesse Hartley; section showing situation of engine, pumps, water levels etc., 1 Mar. 1826; draft plan of the engine, boiler and pumps with note by William Bennett, 1 Mar. 1826; coloured plan and section on tracing paper of the proposed new docks, sent by Jesse Hartley, 2 Mar. 1826; memorandum of letters from and to Jesse Hartley, Jan.-Dec. 1826. The coloured original and reverse drawings bear letter codes.
