Description

Annual returns giving names and professions of members of the Lodge of St. George [Moderns] and general correspondence relating to the runing of the lodge. Years 1782 and 1784 are not extant.

Administrative / biographical background

The Lodge of St. George was established in 1780. The the lodge was named the Lodge of George in 1787 and renamed the Lodge of St. George in 1792. The lodge was held in the First [or King's] Regiment of Dragoon Guards and therefore travelled the country with the regiment. In 1783 the regiment were at Canterbury, Kent. In 1785 they were stationed at Exeter and in 1786 they had moved to York. The lodge made it's last payments in1792 and was erased in 1813.
